I'm a little obsessed when it comes to washing my car. It's black in color and shows every little water spot, piece of dust, you name it. Over the years I've found certain methods to washing my car to be more useful than others, and they also save time.

Always use a soap that's meant to be used on cars, NOT dish detergent, as this will fade your paint. Mix about a cap full of car wash soap into a bucket and fill it with water. It's best to use warm water, but cold water will do. I recommend using a micro fibre soft bristle washing wand because you can extend it to reach the higher areas, such as your roof. Always begin washing the top of your car first and work your way down, leaving the trunk and hood for last. The reason for this is because the soap from the roof drips down all four sides of your vehicle, thus causing loose dirt to be washed away before you even begin scrubbing in that area. Of course you should always spray down your vehicle prior to applying soap.

This is what I do when washing a black car, but if your car is another color you may not have to be this precise.
